- By 1953 Packard was struggling company and the president of the company—James J. Nance felt that the only way to save the company is to get rid of the low priced models and to return the old image of the Packard as luxury car brand. James J. Nance got plans to establish new make and to name it "Clipper" the targeted buyers would be the same as Oldsmobile and Mercury. After all that didn't happen and Clipper continued the tradition as one of the most remarkable Packard's models.
